Moët & Chandon, Dom Pérignon, Oenothèque 1996

Moët & Chandon, Dom Pérignon, Oenothèque 1996

RRP £404

An equal blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, disgorged in 2008, the Oenothèque cuvée has slightly less dosage than the original disgorgement cuvée (2004, also tasted in this line-up). An elegant nose first offers up strikingly reductive aromas of struck match and gunflint, with some citrus and green apple fruit characters coming through. This is made in a vinous style with some toasted notes and middleweight intensity. A focused, precise yet elegant palate, with a long lingering finish. Beautiful – like a fine white Burgundy.
