Rum
Dictador, 1976
RRP £15,000
Dictador has firmly established itself as a bottler of some of the oldest stocks of vintage rum in existence, much of which is drawn from a closed distillery in Colombia. This expression, housed in a stunning Lalique crystal decanter, is a vintage 1976. It starts off with jam doughnuts, an earthy hint of tomato plant, toffee and coffee notes on the nose. The palate gives herbes de Provence, a meaty hit of bone broth and then sweet white chocolate, vintage leather and cedarwood. The finish is ripe plums, figs, a spicy note of Dr Pepper and a hint of root beer. Rosewater, almond and Turkish delight round this off.
