Château Latour, 1er cru classé 2009

RRP £837

2009 was a stressful vintage for the winemaking team at Latour: the press had broken down and so the wine was made without pressing the grapes at all, which meant a very long fermentation. In spite of this, the Pauillac first growth is impeccably turned-out. It demands your attention with its uncharacteristically moody, hot-blooded temperament, and more characteristic razor-sharp wit. The bouquet is crammed with aristocratic black fruit, fresh blue plums, deep purple damsons, and gently-roasted coffee beans. The wine glides across the palate like a figure skater, carving its inimitable path in the ice. More than poised, lean and long; lithe, entrancing.
