2016 is described as a “near perfect” vintage in Napa. Wow, what a meaty, savoury, perfumed nose, carried through on the palate, which is full and fresh with a swathe of violet perfume, and a streak of dark chocolate. This is the Stag’s Leap version of Rutherford dust, fine dark cocoa contrasting with the excellent dark fruit, the round though grippy tannin, the whole bathed in juice, giving a most satisfying ending. A lovely wine
