What began as a family venture has become Europe’s largest wine-growing group. Vranken Pommery Monopole has an exceptional heritage of vineyards spanning the likes of Champagne, Camargue, Provence, Portugal and beyond. Fittingly, with access to some of the world’s finest terroirs, the wine grower is united by a single passion: the creation of great wines.
In Champagne, Pommery is both historic and modern, recognised for its close relationship with art and its signature style of freshness, finesse and vibrancy, as well as its iconic royal blue identity. At the heart of Domaine Pommery in Reims lies Les Clos Pompadour, 25 hectares of vines within the city walls, producing fruit of exceptional quality. Restored over three years to the vivid blue first chosen by Madame Pommery herself, the estate embodies the house’s spirit of elegance and innovation. Its quality rests on long ageing and bold cuvées such as Apanage 1874. In 2015, Vranken extended the vision internationally with Louis Pommery England, crafting sparkling wines from 40 hectares at Pinglestone in Hampshire using the traditional Champagne method.
In Provence, Château La Gordonne is a contiguous 320-hectare estate nestled in a schist amphitheatre facing the sea, in the golden triangle between Puget-Ville, Pierrefeu-du-Var and Cuers. Cellar Master Julien Fort, named among The Drinks Business’s Top 100 Winemakers, produces generous, sun-filled wines that reflect their land.
Along the southern coast, Les Grands Domaines du Littoral stretches across four offshore sandbars between the sea, lagoons and salt marshes of the Camargue. Dating back to 1883 and spanning 2,350 hectares – including 814 hectares of organic Grenache planted franc de pied – it is one of Europe’s most distinctive vineyard landscapes, its vines having survived the phylloxera crisis untouched.
Further inland, in the Douro Valley, the group cultivates 220 hectares of terraced vineyards classified “A” in the Upper Douro, the highest ranking on Portugal’s crus scale and part of a UNESCO World Heritage landscape since 2001.
For the Vranken-Pommery team, the joy of winemaking lies in its ability to create emotion – for those who craft the wines and for those who share them. Deeply connected to their terroirs, to the rhythm of the seasons and to the people behind the work, they find real magic in transforming grapes into wines that mark life’s finest moments. Since 2021, Vranken-Pommery has been officially recognised as a Société à Mission, a company committed to social and environmental purpose.
